Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon 2019 – organised by Runners Club in partnership with Cluj-Napoca Municipality and title sponsor Wizz Air, has once again rose the standards of international running events in Romania and Eastern Europe! 7117 runners from 37 countries have participated at the 9th edition of Cluj-Napoca International Maraton races where a new speed record was registered on the marathon course!
Cluj-Napoca: a running city and a promoter of running in Romania
Ar 8:15, Mr. Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca and his team have started running together with the first 2300 competitors who registered at the traditional 5k morning race.
Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon 2019 races have started while families, friends and around 10.000 supporters cheered for runners on Cluj Arena stadium and the Central Park:
- 581 marathoners – ran the Wizz Air 42k
- 1.386 half marathoners – competed at Hervis 21k
- 408 de runners, participated at ZuZu Fit Marathon Relay
- 1.1142 competitors – ran the Garmin 10K
- more than 2.100 runners enjoyed the Mega Image 5K
The surprise of the edition was the record number of youth and kids, around 1500, who took part in the KIDS Race, Saturday, April 13 on Cluj Arena.
2019 MARATON Results
The Kenyan Athlete Evans Kipngetich Tanui established a new time record for the 42k marathon certified AIMS race, with an extraordinarytime: 2h 24 minutes 17 seconds! Romanian athletes have also took the limelight, taking the two silver medals, (both male and female categories)!

An extraordinary support of the local and sports community
This edition has benefited from the fantastic involvement of event partners, ambassadors and the social causes represented at Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca 2019!
2019 Ambasadors: Marius Ionescu – olympian, Laura Popescu – professional athlete, Mihai Silvășan – trainer of U-BT Cluj-Napoca seniors basketball team, dr. bogdan Florea – neurologist and ambassador of the cause Telemedicine in Epilepsy in Romania, Bogdan Marișca – rally instructor, sports and defensive driving instructor.
Under the motto of the edition– Grow Your Wings! Be A Legend in Transylvania! – the training programmes My First Marathon 2019 and My First Half Marathon 2019 supported by Runners Club have launched a new generation of amateur runners, trained for 21k and 42K.
Sport Expo Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon 2019 – that took place at BT Arena and on Cluj Arena platform has received during 3 days more than 17.000 visitors from Romania and abroad.
2 official city trainings counting more than 120 participants, 2 community meetings with the runners in Cluj-Napoca have animated the spirit of outdoor running, before the international event.
The 13 entertainment posts on the marathon course have transformed the event in a real celebration of sports.
